Airside transit without a visa requires the same-day connection and documents described below. A valid visa for Australia, Canada, New Zealand or the USA can qualify irrespective of route. The separate used-visa exemption applies on a reasonable journey FROM that issuing country within six months of entry there with a valid visa. Irish biometric visas must carry an eligible BC or BC BIVS endorsement. Landside transit has separate document AND route requirements; holding a visa alone does not guarantee eligibility. Check the official carrier rules for the exact itinerary. Airside transit to Ireland or elsewhere in the Common Travel Area is not possible. Foreign electronic visas or residence permits are accepted for airside TWOV only if the airline can verify them with the issuer; they are not accepted for landside TWOV under the carrier guidance.

Indian passport holders normally need a UK transit visa. Airside TWOV requires arrival and departure by air, a same-day confirmed onward flight from the same airport, destination documents, and a qualifying visa or residence document. Landside TWOV requires an onward flight before 23:59 the following day plus a qualifying document and route. A UK border officer makes the final landside decision.
