How to Apply for Visas from the UAE as an Indian

You don't have to fly back to India — here's how to apply for Schengen, US and UK visas as an Indian resident of the UAE.

Last updated: May 2026

One of the biggest advantages of living in the UAE as an Indian: you can apply for most visas right here, without flying back to India. Embassies and visa centres (like VFS Global) in Dubai and Abu Dhabi process applications from UAE residents. Here's how it works and what to prepare.

You can apply as a UAE resident

As long as your UAE residence visa is valid for a reasonable period beyond your trip, you can apply for tourist visas from within the UAE rather than from India. Your application is assessed locally, using your UAE residency and salary as part of the financial picture.

Most embassies want your residence visa / Emirates ID valid for at least 3–6 months beyond your intended return date. Check this early — a soon-to-expire residence visa is a common rejection reason.

Where you apply

  • Schengen visas: through the relevant country's visa centre (often VFS Global or BLS) in Dubai or Abu Dhabi. Apply through the country you'll spend the most time in.
  • US visa: schedule at the US Consulate Dubai or Embassy Abu Dhabi (DS-160 + interview).
  • UK visa: through the UK visa centre in Dubai/Abu Dhabi.
  • Many other eVisas (e.g. for onward travel) can be applied for fully online.

Documents you'll typically need

  • Passport (with 6+ months validity) and a copy of your UAE residence visa / Emirates ID.
  • Salary certificate and/or NOC from your employer.
  • Bank statements (UAE account) — usually the last 3–6 months.
  • Confirmed flight and hotel bookings (or itinerary) and travel insurance.

Already hold a US, UK or Schengen visa?

If you do, you may have easier access to several destinations — including visa-on-arrival in Oman. See what your existing visas unlock before you apply for anything new.

Frequently asked questions

Can I apply for a Schengen visa from Dubai as an Indian?

Yes. Indian passport holders who are UAE residents can apply for a Schengen visa through the relevant country's visa centre (often VFS Global or BLS) in Dubai or Abu Dhabi — there's no need to return to India.

Does my UAE residence visa need to be valid for a while?

Generally yes. Most embassies expect your residence visa / Emirates ID to be valid for several months (often 3–6) beyond your planned return. Renew early if it's close to expiry.

Do I apply on my Indian passport or something else?

You apply on your Indian passport. Your UAE residency strengthens the application (local ties, salary, bank history) but the travel document is always your Indian passport.
