- Passport issued within the previous 10 years, with two blank pages and at least three months remaining after your final planned Schengen departure
- Travel medical insurance: at least €30,000 for emergency treatment, hospitalisation and repatriation, valid across Schengen for your stay; check the mission’s accepted Indian insurers and policy limits
- Accommodation, itinerary and flight reservation, plus financial and economic-status evidence for your circumstances; a paid ticket does not secure faster processing
Step-by-Step Application Process

Confirm Germany is your sole or main destination by length or purpose; if no main destination can be established, apply to the country of first Schengen entry

Prepare the tourism checklist; complete VIDEX, print all pages including barcodes, and sign the required forms and declarations

Book the tourism appointment through VFS; German short-stay applications can be submitted at any VFS centre in India, unlike national D visas

Submit documents, passport and any required biometrics; follow the mission’s conditions if using a representative. Pay the applicable visa and service fees

Track through VFS and receive your passport through VFS; allow transport time to and from the consulate in addition to appointment and assessment time
Documents Required
- Passport and biometric/address-page copies; signed VIDEX printout with barcodes and the mission’s declarations
- At least one recent biometric photograph (35×45mm, no older than six months); follow the official background and face-size specifications
- Covering letter, itinerary, flight reservation, accommodation or host documents, and qualifying travel medical insurance
- Use your economic-status checklist: employed applicants need three months of payslips and bank statements, employment/leave evidence, and two assessment years of ITR acknowledgement or Form 16; other categories have different requirements
- For sponsorship, minors and civil-status circumstances, add the corresponding official checklist documents. Supply German or English translations where required
Pro Tips
- Use the official tourism checklist for your circumstances; submitting the listed documents does not guarantee approval
- Check the passport number, spelling, entry count and dates as soon as the visa is returned
- If the nearest VFS centre is full, the mission permits another Indian VFS centre for a German short-stay application
- Leave time for application transport and passport return; the consular assessment clock does not start at your VFS appointment
Important Notes
- • Check the visa’s permitted territory, entry count, dates and granted days; a visa does not itself guarantee admission at the border
- • Prior fingerprints do not guarantee exemption from collection: the submission guidance refers to 59 months, and the mission may collect them again
- • For a multiple-entry application, prove insurance for the first planned visit and keep valid cover for later visits as required
- • Carry copies of your application’s travel, accommodation and financial evidence on the trip
