Step-by-Step Application Process

    Apply through Iceland when it is your sole or main destination by length or purpose; if no main destination can be determined, use the first Schengen entry country. Normally apply where you legally reside

    Complete the application at visa.government.is and retain its submission confirmation; also bring the printed, signed Schengen application required by the India checklist

  3. 3

    Book the Iceland VFS appointment in India and bring the complete document pack; provide biometrics when required and pay the applicable visa and service charges

  4. 4

    VFS sends the application to the Icelandic Embassy in New Delhi for assessment; respond promptly to requests for documents or an interview

    Check the approved visa’s validity, entries and granted stay before travel; submitting an application does not guarantee a visa

Documents Required

  • Qualifying passport; previous Schengen entry/exit stamp copies if available; printed signed Schengen form and online-application confirmation
  • One white-background 35×45 mm photo taken within the last 6 months
  • Insurance policy, return reservation with passenger name and PNR, itinerary, accommodation or private-host evidence, and a cover letter describing the trip
  • Original bank statements covering 3 months, every page stamped and signed, and ITR acknowledgments for 2 assessment years; follow the checklist’s sponsorship evidence where applicable
  • Employees: 3 months of payslips, contract and approved leave. Self-employed: registration/GST, business bank evidence and verifiable tax return. Students: enrolment evidence
  • Retirees: 3 months of pension statements and relevant income evidence. Sponsored applicants: sponsor letter, photo ID and relationship evidence where applicable
  • Minors: parental identity documents and notarised consent for one-parent or unaccompanied travel, or evidence of sole custody as applicable. Use the complete checklist for the required combination

Important Notes

  • • Observe both the shared Schengen 90-in-180-day limit and any shorter duration, territorial restriction or entry limit on your visa
  • • The India checklist asks for bank evidence even when a trip is sponsored; provide the sponsor’s letter and identity evidence where relevant
  • • If VFS marks documents as missing, the checklist requires them within 5 calendar days of the appointment. Follow the current Embassy instructions and check your spam folder for requests
  • • Multiple-entry permission is assessed separately; do not assume a first application guarantees multiple entries
