Pro Tips

  • Apply for eVisa at least 2 weeks before travel even though processing is 3 days
  • Maasai Mara safari: July-October is peak migration season — book early
  • Nairobi has excellent Indian restaurants in Westlands and Parklands areas
  • Uber works in Nairobi — safer than random taxis
  • Currency: Kenyan Shilling (KES) — carry USD to exchange; 1 USD ≈ 130 KES
  • Visa on arrival is also available at JKIA airport ($51) but eVisa is faster and cheaper

Important Notes

  • • Yellow Fever vaccination is MANDATORY for entry to Kenya — no exceptions
  • • Get Yellow Fever vaccine at least 10 days before travel (takes time to activate)
  • • Yellow Fever certificate must be original (International Certificate of Vaccination card)
  • • Single-entry $30 USD visa; East Africa Tourist Visa ($100) allows Uganda and Rwanda too
